Adult Bengal Cat Available - Pedigreed

All of the Bengal kittens we had available are now reserved by great families and will go to their new homes before Christmas :-).

We have one adult Bengal cat that is available now. Her name is Zoey. She is a pedigreed Bengal female that is golden spotted with rosettes. She is current with vaccines, dewormed, micro-chipped, healthy per our veterinarian and has no litter box or other adverse behavioral issues. She comes with TICA registration papers and vet. record. There is a very small re-homing fee. Contact us now to inquire about this lovely adult Bengal cat. We would like to place her in a home where she would be the only pet as she loves attention. New Homes for Kittens - Update

Our kittens we call Gem and Ike have both been reserved to go to their new homes when they are 12 weeks old just before Christmas :-) The are both going to great families.

We named our kitten Ike after former President Dwight D. Eisenhower, who was also a former U.S. military general. Coincidentally, Ike's new owner is a military veteran.
I am glad the placement is such a great match.

Parrots Make Great Pets Too - Adopt One

We saw an article today written by David Klepper of the Associated Press (AP) that featured Lazicki's Bird House and Rescue in South Kingstown, R.I. Unfortunately, this rescue is being forced to move by December 30, 2013 because the building that houses the shelter will be torn down soon. This business has 80 parrots that need to be re-homed right away.

We have Bengal cats, however, we also have a Solomon Island Eclectus parrot as our pet. Parrots make great pets for people who have the time to spend with them. They can be very social and loving. If you can possibly help by adopting one of the parrots at Lazicki's Bird House and Rescue, please do. If not, please let others know who may be able to help. The phone number listed on the rescue's website is: (401) 500-4925.

Pet Safety

It's past the middle of October. Now is the time to decide (if you have not already done so) if you are going to get a costume for your pet for Halloween. The pet stores I have been to have a large selection of costumes to choose from if you are inclined to have your pet participate.

When choosing pet costumes try to select safe ones. Be wary of costumes that are adorned with sparkles as they can be licked off. Be on the lookout for dangly metal objects that can come off and be swallowed by your pet which presents a choking hazard. And finally, be extra careful of the plastic bags you bring the costumes home in that your pet could get into to hide (in case he/she does not like the costume you picked out :-)) which could cause suffocation.

A little extra caution on your part will go a long way in keeping your pet safe.

Gone to New Homes

The kittens from Faith's last litter are all gone to their new homes. Pick up day was very exciting for everyone.

Once the kittens leave, the atmosphere here changes a bit. We miss the kittens we have spent 12 wonderful weeks with and have to adjust to them being gone. Even though we raise the kittens for other people to enjoy, each one has a special place in our hearts. The bright side is, we have hand picked each family and can be confident the kittens can have happy lives.

A Brown Spotted Rosetted Bengal Kitten for Sale

We have a beautiful brown spotted rosetted Bengal kitten that is available. We call him Laser. His father is a Triple Grand Champion show cat and his mother is from outstanding bloodlines as well. This little male has a gorgeous coat pattern, a whited tummy and an awesome personality. He does well with children and if properly introduced should do well with other pets. Check out his photos below. He is a house kitten and was not thrilled about being outside as proven in the third photo where he moved and the camera cut off part of his face. I decided to post it so you can see his pattern on his right side. Contact us now if you would like more information or would like to make Laser part of your family.

Kitten Loves Sunbathing

Just wanted to share a photo of our Bengal Kitten we call NiNi at 3 weeks old. She was sunbathing on a warm day and seemed to love the feel of the sun and fresh air. Her outing was short but it appears it was very much enjoyed.

Pet Groomers

Many pets require regular grooming. Often pet owners groom their pets themselves, but many of us rely on the services of pet groomers.

Because our Bengals are shorthairs, we groom the kittens ourselves. As for the adults, the females are easy to groom so we groom them with little effort. However, the males, due to being larger and heavier, can be a handful. We usually take them to the pet groomers. We always discuss which shampoo to use as pets can be allergic to certain shampoos.

We have heard conversations in the groomer's office lately about a movement to ensure that all pet groomers become licensed. What do you think about this subject? Do you use a pet groomer? Is he/she licensed? Let us know by sending us your comments.

Bengal Kitten Photos

We have new Bengal kittens available with both males and females in the litter. There are 4 brown spotted kittens and one marble patterned kitten. We recently had a beautiful warm day with lots of sunshine, so we took the kittens outside and let them lay on a towel to have their photos taken. The first photo is of Kiko, a female brown spotted Bengal with a lovely face and whited tummy. The second photo is of a male Bengal kitten we call Max. Max is brown spotted with large spots, has rosettes and a great profile. We are keeping an eye on his development as he could be our next Show Cat :-)

If you have any questions about either kitten or would like one of your own, contact us at our website listed on the right through our Priority Request page. Feel free to comment on this page as well.

Make New Friends

Would you like to make new friends who like pets? There are many ways to let people know you like pets.

Here is one way. Have a photo of your pet printed on a hat or shirt and wear it. You will probably have a few people who are pet lovers make a comment or ask you about it. You can then keep the conversation going and possibly turn that person into an acquaintance or even better, a new friend.

Try this for a month and let us know how it goes. Good luck :-)

Happy Fourth of July

Independence Day is very special to us. In addition to recognizing the struggle our ancestors had in achieving freedom, we are grateful we can reap the benefits of their efforts. Obtaining freedom was not easy and remaining free requires continued unity. We wish you and yours a Happy Fourth of July.

Bengal Cats Sharing

Our Bengal cats are very well socialized and love interaction with people. Our cats also get along well with each other (most of the time), which for many multi-cat households is not always true. Here is a photo of our cats sharing a meal with each other. If you have a multi-cat household, let us know if your cats are good with sharing or not.

Interesting Article on MNN Mother Nature Network by Laura Moss

I saw an article that I found very interesting on the website of MNN Mother Nature Network. The article was written by Laura Moss on 5/22/13. The title of the article is: Kidnapped women will have a chance to adopt Ariel Castro's dogs.

I have provided a link to the www.mnn.com site below. Click on the link which takes you to their Home page. To see the article, go to their Family tab to see the drop down menu and then click Pets. The site updates their information regularly, so I am not sure how the long the article will be available. Let me know what you think about the article using the Comment box on our blog.

Oklahoma Tornadoes

We were very saddened to learn of the tornadoes that caused loss of life and massive damage in Oklahoma.

Assistance has already begun with first responders, a pledge by President Obama of whatever assistance can be provided and continued support during search and rescue, clean up and rebuilding efforts.

If you can provide any in-person direct assistance, please do. If you can't provide direct assistance in person, please consider making a donation to The Red Cross for this recovery effort. I am sure the residents of Oklahoma will appreciate whatever you can do.

Bengal Kittens and Bengal Cats

We carefully chose Bengal cats for our program who are certified by TICA to be domestic pedigreed Bengals, have excellent temperament, have been proven healthy through extensive health testing and who are very beautiful. Because our kittens came from cats with excellent temperament and the fact that we handle and socialize them extensively, they are warm and friendly when they leave us to go to their new families.

If you would like an adorable pedigreed Bengal kitten or cat for yourself or your family, contact us now via the Priority Request form on our website. We will help you select a kitten or cat who can become a cherished member of your household.

Does Your Pet Know It's Friday?

Today is Friday and our cats seem to know it. Our daily routine is a bit different on Fridays, so their attention to us seems heightened.

Fridays are our regular pet store day and we usually take one pet with us. They seem to wake up on Fridays a bit more hyper than usual (which for Bengals is super high energy) and clingy. They know only one will be allowed to go and they vie for the closest position to us. Once our selection is made, the other cats wait to see if we will change the selection. When we start towards the door, the other cats head off to do something else.

When we come back, we see the cats in the window waiting for us. Once we open the door to come in, we get swarmed. They know that even though they did not get a chance to go to the pet store this time, we have treats for them. Once the bags are opened and the treats given out, the cats go away happy.

Does your pet know it is Friday or recognized a different day of the week? Leave us a comment to let us know.

By the way - Happy Friday to you!

Flea and Tick Season

Spring is coming soon and now is the time to consider whether you need a flea and tick application for your pet.

Choose any flea and tick application carefully. We once had a dog we applied a flea and tick application to. Over the next couple of days, she began scratching and licking herself to the point where she started to lose hair. A trip to the veterinarian revealed she was allergic to that particular brand of flea and tick application which was irritating her skin. It took several treatments by the vet. (which cost us a few hundred dollars when it was all said and done) to clear up the skin irritation.

Contact your vet. before using any application on your pets and then decide what is best for your pet.

Pet Politics

Be mindful of the regulations in your area regarding how many pets and the type of pets you can legally own. Also, if you are a homeowner, check your policy to see what pet related incidents your insurance will or will not cover.

It's Ok to Keep it Simple.

When buying toys for your favorite pet, it is easy to spend a lot of money at the pet stores trying to find the latest and greatest toy to get the pet's interest. Despite the appeal of the pricey items in the stores, don't forget that pets often are very easy to please.

If you happen to have a large box at your house, cut holes at different heights on each side big enough for your pet to climb through. Put one of the toys the pet already has in it. Most likely the pet will go into the box and have fun playing with the toy as well as going through the different openings.

If you followed my suggestion, I just saved you a lot of money.

Have a great day.

Solomon Island Eclectus Parrot New Home

We love our cats and we have pet parrots as well. We are looking for a new home for our gorgeous female Solomon Island Eclectus Parrot named Sheba. She is mostly red, blue and burgundy in color. She will soon be 5 years old. This is very young for an eclectus parrot as they can have a lifespan of approximately 60 years old or more.

Sheba is a real treasure. She is fully feathered. This in itself is remarkable as many pet parrots, unless they are very well adjusted and feel loved, can develop a problem with plucking out their feathers to the point where some are very bald. Sheba does not have a plucking issue. She has been taught how to step up onto your finger to come to you, loves to give kisses and likes her showers in the sink. She is very attentive to her surroundings and the people in it. We do not clip her wings, so she does fly. Her large sandstone colored cage is for sale also.

Here are a couple of photos of her:

Another photo of her is at the bottom of our blog page.

If you are interested in making Sheba part of your family, contact us for details at: (586) 291-1799.

We hope everyone is enjoying today, the seventh day of 2013.

Post your comments on our blog so your experiences can help someone else make a good decision about how to travel with their pets and have a great time.

Thanks for your input and happy traveling!
