There are many different pedigreed registered dogs. The American Kennel Club (AKC) maintains a huge registry of the different breeds. They posted an article on 2/23/12 that lists the 10 most popular dogs in the United States in 2011. According to the AKC, they are:
1. Labrador Retriever
2. German Shepherd Dog
3. Beagle
4. Golden Retriever
5. Yorkshire Terrier
6. Bulldog
7. Boxer
8. Poodle
9. Dachshund
10. Rottweiler
